Oh shit! Helpful mom accidentally becomes a soccer coach.

Updated: Apr 25, 2023

I’m embarrassed. I signed Rory up to play soccer. At least a week after the deadline. Yikes!

I got this text: “…saw you are helping coach!”

Thought I was chasing soccer balls or bringing fruit. Apparently being helpful landed me a staff position on my daughter's soccer team. Whoops!

Yep, that's my name. Under "Staff." My stomach dropped. I don’t know ANYTHING about soccer!

My reply: “I volunteered to help. Thought that meant wrangling balls or bringing fruit. My fruit game is strong. My soccer-ing is not.”

A flood of texts from soccer parents came to me. No one had information about the 1st practice or team pictures. OMG! Me neither.

I sent the standard text above. None of the parents laughed. Whoops. Wish me luck in our 1st soccer season. With 3-year-olds. LOL! Apparently, this is how a mom accidentally becomes a soccer coach.

Do any other parents have moments like these? Share your stories. I can't wait to read them!
